TOPIC: moving house

I will be walking one day
Down a street far away
And see a face in the crowd and smile
Knowing how you made me laugh
Hearing sweet echoes of you from the past
I will remember you.

(Amy Grant - "I Will Remember You")

Dear Maggie,

G’day, love! It’s been so long since we’ve talked. Ronnie and I hope that you’re doing well in your teaching. So much has happened in our lives since you left Australia.

Debbie and Dwayne have moved into a nice little house that fits them perfectly. The kids have a nice backyard to play in. They have a cute little puppy to chase around the yard. Ashleigh says hello. She remembers you fondly as one of her fourth-grade teachers. She also wants me to thank you for the stamps that you’ve sent. She especially enjoyed the Disney stamps. I was quite taken with the California desert animal stamps. We’ve saved them all.

Sharon and Michael have moved into a new house, as well. Little Stephen is growing up so quickly. I’ve included some pictures of him through the last couple of years. He has a little sister now. They named her Meagahn, which always reminds us of you. You’ll find some pictures of her, too.

When you were here with us, you might remember that Ronnie and I were thinking about moving, too. Well, shortly after you left, we had the side of the house repaired. Do you remember when the truck from across the street rolled into our house? You were in the room right there, and it startled you. Remember? Thinking back on that, it was quite amusing, don’t you agree?

Well, in moving house we found something of yours. Your blue umbrella was in the closet - the one with the big yellow spots all over it. It was in the back corner with boxes hiding it. When you packed your things, you probably didn’t even see it. We dusted it off and brought it with us as we moved to a house near both Sharon and Debbie.

I remember that umbrella being used often during your stay with us. That must have been one our rainiest winters. How often did you have to walk to school with the raindrops tumbling down on that yellow-spotted umbrella? You insisted on walking to school; you’d rarely let me drive you. I know that you enjoyed the exercise. I still felt bad, but knowing that’s what you wanted, assured me that all was well.

If we hadn’t moved, we may never have found that – well, not for a long time anyway. It brought back fond memories of the time that you spent with us. The kids still ask about you, wondering what you are doing. We hope that you enjoyed your time with us as much as we did. You always had a bright smile on your face, and in turn, put one on our faces.

We are considering another visit to the States, and I hope that we can call you for a little reunion. As always, we’ll be bringing the whole gang. We definitely want to stock upon the Hunk bars. Those are simply the best! Num! We can’t wait to see you again.

Again, we hope that all finds you in good health and well-being.

Your Aussie Mates,

Ron and Pam
