Where have you gone, Mrs. Robinson...

(Update: Where I've been this month!)

I can't believe how quickly this summer is flying by me! Just look at how many days I have left of Summer! (It's the countdown doo-hickie below my entry.) Nineteen days left. Nineteen! That is less than three weeks. I'm not ready. I'm just not ready, I say!

This summer has been filled with so many things for me. I can't remember the last time that I had such an event-filled school break. During my summer off, I usually have one so-called trip: back home, a cruise, etc. This year, though? I have spent more days *away* from my house than I have actually spent in it. Amazing.

It's an exhilarating feeling, I must admit. I am usually such a homebody, and all of this traveling is really beginning to become very appealing. I knew it would. Traveling has always been something that I enjoyed, and it's proving to be very attractive on me. Heh! I'm glad that I am in the position to take these trips. I guess there are definitely advantages to being single.

First of all, I flew to Hawaii. That was a wonderful experience. Amazing even. I spent six glorious days in the lushness of the island. The people there were delightful. The food was outstanding. I'm telling you, they really know how to make things [taste] good! Macadamia nuts are used everywhere. That is a place I could really love.

After being home for a week, my friend Stacey flew out to see me. She and I left the same day she arrived on our long trek homeward. We had been planning the trip for months and months – since I was home at Christmas time, actually. She made all of the arrangements. What a great friend! We had a really great time. The drive home was spent laughing, singing, and acting like complete goofs. That adventure took another six days.

Since I've been home (at my parents' house), I have been dashing to and fro with my sisters or Stacey. I also got together with my long-time friend, Kris. We hadn't seen each or talked with one another since Christmas. I love the feeling you get with old friends, the one where it feels like you've never been away from each other. She and I have that feeling. We always pick up right where we left off.

I've even gotten to spend some quality time with my niece and nephews! One of the major disadvantages of living so far from home is that I am missing my niece and nephews as they up. They have gotten so big! While my little sister and her business partner were in Chicago, I watched her four children, two of whom barely know me. I had so much fun with them! The older ones (who do know me well) were very helpful and also a lot of fun to get to know again. One day I even took my little three-year-old niece with me to the nail place, and we both got manicures and pedicures. How cute is that!

Now I am in Tennessee visiting yet another friend. I flew here on Thursday, and I'm leaving early tomorrow morning. She and I have been friends for years, and it's so incredibly fun to finally get to meet her! When we met at the airport, I felt like I had known her forever (in person, I mean). We've been working on some things together on the computer, and we also went out and about to the movies, the mall, and the teacher store. Yay! We both love teacher supply stores. Heh. I've had such a wonderful time with her. I don't want to leave!

Tomorrow I return to my parents' home in Wisconsin and will be there for another week before driving home with my mother. I'm glad she's coming with me because it would be a long, horrible drive if I were to do it alone. Thanks, Mom! She'll probably stay a few days or a week and then fly back home. After that, it will be nearly time to start getting my classroom ready – before school starts on the 23rd (28th for the students).

As I previously stated, I just can't believe that it's almost time to start school again! My thoughts and feelings about that (and my class next year) are for a whole different entry.

As you may have noticed [motioning to the right], I have been nominated and become a finalist for Best New Journal in the Diarist.net Awards! A big thanks goes out to whomever nominated me! I'd also like to extend a welcome to those who might be dropping by as they peruse all of the finalists in each category. I'm looking forward to seeing all of finalists this quarter myself. I often find some great new journals to read from these things. I'd also like to wish the other two finalists in the Best New Journal category much luck!

If you have never visited the Diarist.net awards, I encourage you to do so. It's a great sampling of what is out there in the big world of online journaling!
