Have you ever been in the shower, sitting at your computer, doing the dishes, or going to the bathroom when all of a sudden you feel the need to break out into song? You sing very loudly, at the top of your lungs even because you live alone. When you are finished singing, you step outside to gather the mail or turn the water on your garden, and you turn to see your neighbors smiling at you, clapping their hands mockingly approvingly?
Has this happened to you?
Me neither, but it is something I often think about as I am belting out some Monkees tune or perhaps a favorite ABBA song. Heheh.
Speaking of ABBA...
As I was taking my evening walk with Lucky~boy, I had on my little CD-Walkman, the tunes of "ABBA Gold" tickling my ears with their jammin' melodies. Making my way around the block, I thought about the theater production of "Mamma Mia" that I saw. It was wonderful! The story that they weaved (wove?) using the many songs of ABBA was truly outstanding. I really want to see it again! I hope it comes back around.
Listening to ABBA made me think of Ace of Base. Remember them? I believe I was not the only one who thought of them as a modern-day ABBA. It would be far from an insult to think such a thing, but I wonder if they tired of hearing something like that. They had a fun beat, too. And with their slightly noticable accent as they sang the songs, it was hard not to compare. Wonder what has happened to them.
This summer my best friend from back home and I are going to be driving across the country belting out songs with the Monkees. We both enjoy their goofy little tunes, and since I have a CD collection of most of their songs, we will have much to sing as we travel over through the country. Doesn't that just make you want to run and jump into the car with us? Who wouldn't want to join in such fun?!
Music is a big part of my life. I'm not alone in this, I know. There are zillions of people out there who claim the same thing. I am not unique, but that's okay! I'm the type of person who blurts out a line from a song to go with nearly anything someone says. I can think of a song for almost anything anyone says. It's a weird thing, but it's true. What makes it doubly annoying is that I usually only know one line from a song by heart. I have a HORRIBLE memory for most things, but especially lyrics. I remember one phrase or one line, and if I'm lucky, I might remember a whole chorus. But, hey... It makes life interesting. ;-)
On another note (ha!), I found out today that I will not have to be looking for another job this summer. Yay for me! My principal had his meeting with the big dogs of the district, the ones who make decisions like Hey, you don't have enough students this year. Cut a teacher! Let her go! Send her packing! Kick her hinder out the door! At this meeting, it was determined that although our student numbers are low, all of the teachers at our school are needed. That includes me! Whew! No more worries. For now. Who knows what could happen in a month or two. Hopefully all will be good. Next year one of our teachers is retiring, so I think I'll be good to go for next year, too. Whew!
Did I mention... Schoooooooooooool's out... for.... summer!
The classroom is cleaned. The hangy things are taken down from the ceiling. Everything is off the floor. The desks are cleaned out. Report cards have been filed. Student files have been updated. My gradebook has been turned in. I am officially signed out for the summer.
Next countdown is: Hawaii!
