What a day!
It's coming to the end of our school year, and we (the third grade teachers) are thinking of next year already!
We did a lot of fundraising this year in our grade, and with the fundraising that the parent group does for the whole school, we were left with a bit of a cushion in our budget. We asked if we could use that extra money for a start-up next year--pencil boxes, markers, rulers, and all that jazz. Normally we buy that ourselves, hoping for a reimbursement from somewhere. That doesn't always happen, though, so we are stuck with the cost.
Well, this year we had the money to use to buy all of that stuff! Woo hoo! It ended up being a couple hundred dollars for each of us, which is a significant help. We had a list of things that we were going to buy--all the things that we normally buy using our own money.
Then we saw the free screening of Space Station (3-D) at the IMAX theater. Well, we just had to make plans to take our students to this. It was just too good to not do. That, of course, left us will a much smaller amount to work with. Such is the life of a teacher! Heheh.
We bought lots of stuff! Markers, colored pencils, 6-inch rulers, pencil boxes, etc. We had about $300 to spend, and we had no problems doing that. It was a day full of comparison shopping to see which store had the best prices on each items. I'm not much of a comparison shopper, but I was with a shopping pro! ;-) We were highly successful, and we patted ourselves on the back for a job well done.
Thank you, parent group!!!
Tonight was our end-of-the-year staff party. It was at the large home of one of the teachers. He has a nice big pool, a large ceramic-tiled patio that has a jacuzzi built in. It's wonderful. There's even a little bar area down by the pool to keep our beverages cool. It also gives one a place to congregate for little discussions here and there.
Karaoke.
I have now been dubbed a karaoke princess, our speech teacher being the queen!
Oh... my... gosh! What fun! I've never done the karaoke thing at parties before, being far too embarrassed to even try such a thing. However, I couldn't resist the group efforts and the fun had by all. I love it! I can't wait to do it again!
Of course, my colleagues are now wondering what I would actually act like if I had some alcohol in me! I was drinking only water, but wow, was I one crazy dudette!
Still 5 days of school left!
