Every year our school puts on a Swap Meet to earn money for the following year. This is my fourth year here, and I’ve never been to one of them. It always sounds like a bunch of fun, but, no matter how awful it sounds, I just like my time off to be without my students. I’m kind of selfish that way. I just enjoy my free time – my alone time.
This year, though, I was talked into joining in. I asked what I would be doing, and I was given a choice – being in charge of a game, selling food, selling tickets, etc. I chose to sell tickets. That’s something that I wouldn’t mind doing. Well, I got there and I was put to work on the dunking tank. It wasn’t horrible, but I had worn sandals because I thought I’d be sitting at a table. Instead, I was running around after softballs and dashing to the tank as Mr. B. (the principal) got “flushed”. I also was in the sun and got sunburned. Moan and groan. Heheh.
Mr. B took a break and talked his son into ‘sitting in’.
The dunking tank was fun, though. The tank that they got was one that had be altered by the water company. Instead of sitting on top and falling down into water, you sat inside and water splash down on you. Now that normally wouldn’t sound like as much fun, but on the top of the tank a toilet – a commode – had been hooked up. Whenever the target was hit, the toilet would flush down on Mr. B. Heheh. It was a hoot! And it was COLD water. I heard about it if I didn’t reset it soon enough. Yep, I got the hang of it really quickly.
There was also a face-painting table, karaoke, rummage sales, a book fair, and a big ol’ bouncing thingy. It was a big monster truck-shaped thing filled with air, and the kids would go inside and bounce around. The kids were jumping up and down inside like little maniacs! It looked like a lot of fun.
The day was a success, I think.
Oh, to be young again!
