Milk...

I am a single person living by myself. But guess how many gallons of milk I buy when I go grocery shopping. I buy two gallons of milk. Now, before you go crazy, understand that I do indeed enjoy milk! However, I never thought that I would ever buy beyond one gallon at a time.

I live in California, southern to be exact. Even before I moved out here, I knew that California had actually surpassed Wisconsin (the Dairy State) in dairy produce. It makes sense; California is a much larger state. If you calculate milk produce per capita then Wisconsin would come out ahead. (Yes, I am originally from Wisconsin! *lol*)

Anyway, the reason for my ramblings this morning is because I am just sitting here thinking about all the milk that I buy, and the fact that I buy two gallons at one time. I don't know the cost of milk elsewhere, but here it is pretty darn expensive. That, in and of itself, is fairly mind boggling to me considering this state produces the most milk. Why then would it be so expensive?

If it's expensive, why do I buy two gallons at a time?? Well, I finally realized that the store from which I buy my groceries sells one gallon for $3.29 or so, but two gallons for $3.89. Isn't that strange? Bizarre? Mind boggling? Of course I would buy two gallons!! It's only about 60-80 cents more on any given day. Even if I don't finish the second gallon before its expiry date, I'm still saving money cuz if I don't finish it (which I almost always do - I love milk), I only end up dumping a quarter of a gallon or less down the drain.

Anyway, that's my thoughtless ramblings for now. I just find it interesting.

(California Cheese and Milk commercials are a whole DIFFERENT topic altogether! *grrr*)
